National Gingerbreadhouse Compeition 2009 Winner

Jodie Stowe uses winnings to adopt a child

Jodie Stowe wins National Ginbergread house competition 2009

Jodie Sowe © Two Rings Studios of Asheville, NC. Permission requested.

The 2009 grand prize winner, Jodie Stowe, has an amazing story to tell. Jodie started marking gingerbread houses in 2003. Each year she looked at the winning entries are learned from them so that her own gingerbread houses got better and better. In 2008, she was placed in the top ten. For 2009, Jodie and her husband spent 150 hours making detailed molds and weighing ingredients with precision.

The marvelous part of the story is that the Stowes have been trying to adopt a special needs child from China. They hope that the red tape is just about finished and intend to use the $3,000 prize check to pay the final fee which they were worried they couldn't meet.

Biggest Gingerbread House

The National Gingerbread House compeition at the Grove Park may be the best place to see beautiful gingerbread houses, but some hotels build giant gingerbread houses. So how big do they get?
